The History of Gospel: The Not So Straight And Narrow
Following last year’s highly successful “Odyssey of Soul”, multi-talented Horace Scruggs continues with this uplifting program which traces the evolution of the first uniquely American form of sacred music, deeply rooted in the religious experience of African-Americans but also heavily influenced by blues and early jazz. Scruggs’ enlightening and entertaining commentary along with songs that highlight the intersection of these sacred and secular art forms illuminate what makes the “gospel experience” part of America’s treasured history. Music by local singers and musicians.
